Soul Possibilities:

Music and Arts Programming

Soul Possibilities is a series of programs in music, theater, and art for children and adults of South Boston and surrounding areas.  Our goal is to make the arts accessible to anyone who desires it, regardless of financial concerns.

There are three "sessions" of Soul Possibilityiesprograms per year, one in the autumn, winter, and spring.   Each session concludes with a final theater production and musical recitals given by the music students. Please see our latest brochure here.

Sunday School

Every week, Sunday School students come to the church to learn about Christian living and beliefs, as well as scripture and church traditions, in a loving and fun environment. The classes also take quarterly field trips...some of the trips we took this past year were to Canobie Lake, the Frog Pond, and the Barnum and Bailey circus!

Fourth Church offers four different Sunday School classes for different ages.  The 6 & under class is taught by Kathy Burger, and Matt and Laurie Pierce.  The 7-9 year old class is taught by Nancy McLaren, the 10-12 year old class, by Chris Hoklotubbe, and the 13 & up class, by Rae Huang and Audrey Hartness.

Children and youth gather at 9:15 AM for a light breakfast, and then begin Sunday School at 9:30 AM.  Children are encouraged to attend the church's worship service at 10:30 AM.

Fourth Presbyterian sent 21 kids to Camp Wilmot this past summer, many on scholarships from Fourth Church. Most of them attended Junior Week, which had "Diving In" as its theme. Campers were encouraged to "dive in" to faith, relationships, and new activities. In addition to regular campers, Fourth Church also had one C.I.T(Counselor-in-training): Victoria Edwards. Camp Director Rob Marks was quite pleased with the Fourth Church turnout andhopes to conitnue to see plenty of our kids up at Wilmot.

Mazemakers is a small, dynamic summer learning community of young people entering grades two through eight. In contrast to traditional summer programs, at Mazemakers we emphasize choice, challenges, and community building. Participants choose their own courses and projects, challenging themselves and each other in cooperative problem solving and trust activities. Together, we build a flourishing community of respect, intellectual vitality, and imagination.

Fourth Presbyterian Church of South Boston offers breakfast, lunch and classes in the arts along with the summer meals program. This Summer Food Service Program is made possible by the Mass. Dept of Education and Project Bread. It prohibits discrimination because or race, religion, sex, color, age, national origin, or handicap.

This past summer the program ran from July 9, 2007 to August 18, 2007.  Please check back at this sight for the dates and registration information for summer 2008.

For over 50 years, Al-Anon (which includes Alateen for younger members) has been offering hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics. It is estimated that each alcoholic affects the lives of at least four other people... alcoholism is truly a family disease. No matter what relationship you have with an alcoholic, whether they are still drinking or not, all who have been affected by someone else’s drinking can find solutions that lead to serenity in the Al-Anon/Alateen fellowship.

Summer Meals Program

Fourth Church is entering its 14th year of the Summer Meals Program!  SMP is a weekly program offered for six weeks in July and August.  Monday through Friday, children aged 8 and under are invited to partake in a free breakfast and lunch, a morning assembly and singing time, and three fabulous periods.  The periods rotate each week and include music, art, outdoor games, and the unique-to-Fourth Church Imagination Station!  The program ran from July 9th until August 18th in 2007.  Please check back here for upcoming registration and dates information for summer 2008.
